1. This image is a representation of the entire Nelson Mandela community that went to Grow Calgary to learn about a different perspective that some people have on life. By inviting Nelson Mandela to the farm, they not only spread awareness to every student that attended the field trip, but also gained publicity by having the news channels .There are some people who want to volunteer their time, money, and effort to help others out of the goodness of their heart. Sometimes people volunteer because they are truly passionate about the food issues that some people in Calgary face. The large image is completely full of tomatoes. The tomatoes have been picked and put into a green house, because the frost was going to come soon, therefore they took the tomatoes and left them alone in a warm climate to ripen up. 8. This image consists of me standing next to the earthship. The earthship is an extremely efficient house, which is built entirely from reused items and cement. It is also “inside” the earth. This house is an idea which can be built in many places, to give people a roof when they are in dire need of one. Shelter is another basic need, and in this case Grow Calgary is trying to figure out a way to give homeless people a shelter to stay under. 9. Lastly, this illustration is from the composting station. As you can see, there is a lot of vegetables, fruits, and eggs lying around the mountains of dirt. Eventually all of these materials will be left outside for a few days or a few months, causing them to be broken down by decomposers. Grow Calgary composts because it is a great way for them to reduce their ecological footprint. In landfills the same amount of garbage would have taken years to decompose, since the conditions in a landfill are not optimal for biodegradation. So basically they reduce the amount of garbage going to the landfill, and turn it into fertilizer which they use to grow plants. Since, I have a garden in my own house, I should also start composting, so that I can reduce my garbage and get fresh fertilizer out of
