World War Two caused the death of millions of innocent people and the destruction of thousands of years of civilisation through the viciousness of mankind. World War Two started on the 3rd of September 1939 when the allied forces declared war against Germany after the unprovoked attack of Poland and didn’t end until 1945 with the defeat of the Japanese imperial forces. The battle of Kokoda began on July 21st 1942 when the Japanese imperial army invaded Papua New Guinea with the intent of capturing Port Moresby and using it as a launching point onto Australian soil. The battle ended on January 23rd 1943, resulting in an Allied victory. There were four peoples at war in Kokoda, those were the Australians and the Americans, who were allied.
Rahul Bagga Mr.Campbell US History, Period 0 16 December 2015 Why did Japan attack Pearl Harbor? One day that will always be remembered by America is the date of December 7, 1941, which changed American history forever. December 7, 1941 was the day the Japanese warplanes attacked Pearl Harbor (Hawaii) which stationed many of American ships and airfields. Immediately after the bombings, United States President Franklin Roosevelt declared war on Japan, leading to a direct involvement into World War ll. Japan had many reason to do so but Japan attacked Pearl harbor for three reasons which were that they had a plan for a new world order, United States were expanding their number of naval ships rapidly, and an oil embargo was placed upon Japan
The first period being around 1906. The plan started out as a three phase war. Japan would make a strong southern attack, then the fleet would sail down to Manila and rescue troops and build an advanced base and lastly in the third phase the United States would impose a tight blockade. In the second period the plan moved more towards the cautionaries side with them reinstating the island hopping campaign. In the third period starting in 1934 where the island hopping campaigned was enhanced and dubbed the path the “Royal Road” .
The European and Pacific Theatre There were many battles in World War II, all of them being important and having different outcomes. Two main theaters we are focusing on are going to be the European Theatre where the Invasion of Normandy took place, along with the Pacific Theatre where the Attack on Pearl Harbor occurred. Both events had major impacts on the outcome of World War II, along with all the other battles we encountered. If ether of these battles turned out differently, America may not have become the amazing beautiful place it is today. The battle of Pearl Harbor occurred early morning in Honolulu, Hawaii on December 7, 1941.
During the WWII, Battle of Midway, in pacific ocean US turned Japan attack to advantage, gave us advantage in pacific. Instead, an American intelligence breakthrough-the solving of the Japanese fleet codes-enabled Pacific Fleet commander, Admiral Chester W. Nimitz to understand the exact Japanese plans. Nimitz placed available US carriers in position to surprise the japanese moving for their preparatory air strikes on midway island itself. The Battle of Midway was the first Japanese defeat in 360 years and changed the war tide making the United States an offensive front and pushing the Japanese Navy back. It was a Decisive American victory and it was the turning point of the war.
After Japan was unsuccessful in the Kokoda campaign, which resulted in the Japanese army being forced out of Papua, their strategy underwent significant change. “The Japanese felt that they had overextended themselves in their advance and it was time to halt and defend their gains.” (Department of Veteran’s Affairs) The Japanese began to put more effort into defending the islands they had already captured, which were generally islands that had lots of valuable resources or were important in defending the islands that had resources.
The United States and Japan fought in World War II during 1941 to 1945. Japan planned to expand their land and gain resources- which led them to invade China whom was an ally of the U.S. In result, the United States cut off the supply of oil to Japan. On December 7th 1941, Japan’s air force did a surprise attack on Pearl Harbor because that is where their military base is located.
WWII in the South Pacific against Japan was a long drawn out battle and Japan ruled the war for an extended period of time. WWII began in the United States with the blow at Pearl Harbor December 7, 1941 by the Japanese; they continued to have triumphed after triumph over the US Pacific fleet. This all changed with the victory over the Japanese at the Island of Midway, June 4 to 7, 1942. With the strategic importance of Midway’s location, cryptographers and all the military units, made this military action the first major turning point for the United States in the South Pacific theatre. Midway is an Island in the middle South Pacific Ocean that is low lying, sandy and is called an Atoll.
Battle of Midway - One of Japan’s main goals during WWII was to remove the United States as a Pacific power and threat. In order to gain territory in East Asia. Japan aimed to defeat the US Pacific Fleet and use the island of Midway as a base to then attack Pearl Harbor, gaining control and becoming the major power in the region. On the 4th of June, aircraft from four Japanese aircraft carriers attacked and severely damaged the US base on Midway. Over the next two days, the US Fleet and US infantry on the island of Midway forced the Japanese to abandon the battle and retreat to Japan.
The Battle of Iwo Jima was one of the bloodiest battles of World War Two. Iwo Jima had air stips that both the United States and the Japanese wanted to help them during World War Two. This battle did not end up going exactly as planned for either country. Both countries had their own strategy but neither succeeded. The Battle of Iwo Jima is an important battle to know about when discussing World War Two.
When looking back into history one typically overlooks the French and Indian war due to lack of public knowledge of the war and what the war accomplished. One of the major effects the war was the widespread development of anger directed toward Great Britain due to the increased taxation of the colonies. Unsurprisingly the war failed to lower the tensions between Great Britain and France. The French and Indian War represented a major turning point in the socio economic relationship between the colonies and Great Britain due to the financial and social tensions created by the war but failed to change the relationship between Great Britain and France.
Off of an island of Japan, many landing crafts wash ashore dropping the doors as seventy thousand United States Marines storm the beaches while being shot at by eighteen thousand Japanese soldiers. This is the battle of Iwo Jima which occurred on Feb 19, 1945 and ended on Mar 26, 1945. The island of Iwo Jima is like a paradise island with clear water and golden-white beaches, pretty trees of different kinds and of course a tall mountain called Mount Suribachi. Back in 1945, the trees were blown to ashes and the beaches were red along with the water as the soldiers tried to take cover.
“From December of 1941 to the spring of 1942, Japanese forces advanced virtually unimpeded throughout the Pacific and southeastern Asia while handing the Allies a string of humiliating defeats, first at Pearl Harbor, then at Guam, Wake Island, Singapore, and in the Philippines. By the spring of 1942, the outcome of the war was very much in doubt as Americans began to think that the Japanese military was invincible. "The Pacific situation is now very grave," cabled President Roosevelt to Winston Churchill in March of 1942, after the Japanese conquest of Java.”
When Harry Truman wanted World War 2 to be over when he made the decision to get revenge on Japan when they got the U.S. involved with the war on December 7,1941. Japan attacked the American naval base at Pearl Harbor near Honolulu, Hawaii, upsetting the U.S. and making them strike back. The Japan attack resulted in destroying 20 american naval vessels, 8 battle ships, and 300 planes. 2,000 american soldiers and sailors died and 1,00 were wounded.
