Juana killed her baby sister Anita by an accident, while she was rocking her in her arms. It began to rain outside and the house flooded due to the poorness of their home. Juana felt guilty when Ama pushed her head into Anita grave forcing her to say something. He felt as though it was his fault because he should have worked harder to get them out of there, and little by little built a better house. Sleep became a stranger to Apa. He stayed up all night thinking about if he could have gotten a better job to fix the house, and avoided Anita’s death. Apa wish he would of swam across the river fast enough to get to Juana and Anita. Guilt made Apa change his life, he went across the border to find a better job to have more money for his family to have a better home. Jose Alberto, was Ama and Apa son, when he was a baby Don Elias and Matilda took the baby from Ama. Juana wants Jose to live a happy life with his real family. Ama is hurting she needs to see Jose and Apa, and Juana feel like if she sees them she would be happy again and won't feel empty without them not there.
