Guilt causes people to act as if they were in debt. Often times they help other in an attempt to empty their feelings of shame. Other people have compassion. This sympathetic behavior acts upon their willingness to help others because the person cares, not to rid themselves of shame. Between the two Greek heroes, Theseus is greater, possessing compassion to others while many of Hercules’ actions are fueled by guilt. Hercules may have unimpeded strength, but when he lets his emotions take control, he overwhelmed with shame. Theseus, however, is the representation of the perfect hero; while strong and shrewd, he is compassionate yet just.

Hercules is the Greek embodiment of perfection, but his actions are directed by emotion. Hercules is mighty,
