For the first time in decades, the president of the United States was one of the guest speakers at the NRA (National Rifle Association) convention. Gun control is one of the most heated topics roaming around the senate right now and citizens and lawmakers alike are unable to come to a resolution on what limitations should be placed over the right to bear arms. The subject of gun control is something that lies very heavily on the minds of the American people. One of the unalienable rights granted by the US Constitution is something that some Americans take great pride in. There is a great amount of historical significance behind why this is the case. “I used to refer to my position on this issue as being in favor of gun control. Which is true, except that “gun control” at its most radical still tends to refer to bans 2 on certain weapons and closing loopholes” (Bovy 1). Instead of “controlling” guns, they should be banned completely. “Ban guns. All guns. Get rid of guns in homes, and on the streets, and, as much as possible, on police” (Bovy 1). Those in favor of open carry have turned anti-gun control into an issue of pride and legacy versus an issue of safety. “As if gun ownership were simply a cultural tradition to be respected, and not, you know, about owning guns. The morality or responsibility should not be made into a humanizing mechanism for gun ownership.
