Don’t take our word for it - see why 10 million students trust us with their essay needs.
He focuses his article on why gun control should not be the response rather than providing insight for how to prevent future issues. Nevertheless, there are many parallels and similarities between the two articles. Both take an anti-gun control standpoint and emphasize the impact of modern culture on violence. Furthermore, they both explain the benefits of guns for civilians as personal defense. Stylistically, both use rhetorical questions, stand-alone sentences, and great syntax variation.
In the New Yorker article “Making a Killing the Business and Politics of Selling Guns” written by Evan Osnos on June 27, 2016, Osnos believes that it is not ethical for an individual to carry a gun as a source of protection and safety as it can gradually increase crime. Osnos main objective for the article is to spread words that gun regulation should be restricted because it has many disadvantage for Americans, as it can help protect the country and reduce crime. In the article, Osnos introduced many examples of gun regulations by using many credible historical news to gain individual’s trust by creating an emotional effect on the audiences. He also uses the historical event to show both the benefits and disadvantages that armed weapon has
Oppose to Hilary Clinton who believes in Mr. Webster studies at John Hopkins which lead to the conclusion of gun homicides. The data from past and present still does not convince the NRA. Eric Lichblau conclude his article by saying that the NRA spend millions a year on ads, and other things trying to keep gun laws the way they are
But the system has major holes in it, among them incomplete listings of criminal cases. Perhaps the biggest hole is that small-scale sellers...are not required to do background checks”(PÉrez-peÑa 2015). For years, Democrats have fought for stricter gun control on firearms. After more than 60,000 gun violence incidents in 2017(gunviolencearchive 2017) and already almost 10,000 incidents in 2018(gunviolencearchive 2018), Democrats have only raised their fight for stricter background checks, a stronger focus on mental health, and have even been looking to ban semi-automatic assault rifles from the everyday human being. Even with the recent mass shootings, Republicans have stuck to their claim that every American has the right to own and carry a firearm.
It’s a true fact that people kill people, not guns. However, people use guns to kill people. So then, it would be understandable to think that it is necessary to control who can get guns. But yet, a large number of guns are sold to people whose backgrounds aren’t checked. This means America isn’t completely controlling who all can get guns — nobody is.
Some politicians also want people who buy guns once they are over the age of 21. They seem to think that at the age of 21 you are a mature enough of an adult to be able to buy a gun if you meet the other requirements also. Many of the people who own guns have a specific reason. . According to Swift (2013), “those who already own firearms mention personal safety/protection most frequently as a reason for ownership (60%), followed by hunting, at 36%” (Para.1). In Florida hunting is very popular and that is why the percentage would be higher in order to own a gun, while it most likely serves as a dual purpose to also be used for protection.
As the amount of school shootings increase rapidly, the entire country is divided on the stance of the gun issue outbreak. While the number of mass shootings is still increasing throughout the country, the total number of shootings have raised to 18 in the first 45 days this year. In hopes to make a change Dick’s Sporting Good made an announcement that they’re refusing to sell assault-style rifles and revised their procedure to legally sell a firearm to a customer in hopes to start the change that this country desperately needs. While there is no evidence that these numbers will stop spontaneously, the government is being tested by the people to take a close glance at revising the second amendment. The ad “It’s Still Not Guns” by Michael Reagan unsuccessfully demonstrates gun violence but has the right intentions to obtain an arousal from parents
According to Gonzalez’s speech, “In Florida, to buy a gun you do not need a permit, you do not need a gun license, and once you buy it you do not need to register it. You do not need a permit to carry a concealed rifle or shotgun. You can buy as many guns as you want at one time.” Then, in the article about “Understanding Key Terms in the Gun Control Debate,” it is evident in the state of Maryland the minimum age to buy a long gun is 18 years old, there is no ‘stand your ground’ law, you do not need a license to purchase a firearm, there is no background check needed, and no waiting period. This just demonstrates how unsafe gun policies currently are, and no one is doing anything about it.
Many schools are considering applying a controversial initiative which is arming teachers because of the fact that school shootings have been happening more often since Columbine. According to the Washington Post ,“...mass public shootings are on the rise, and schools are now viewed as vulnerable targets. One of the deadliest in history claimed 28 lives, including 20 children, after Adam Lanza opened fire at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., in 2012” (Wang). This shooting was the first mass shooting to really make parents consider their children's safety in public schools and have left some wondering what actions can be taken to prevent these shooting Yanan Wang shows the worry in her recent Washington Post article saying, “These
However, in the book, Gun Violence and Mental Illness, published by the American Psychiatric Association they found, “Overall, mass shootings by people with serious mental illness represent 1 percent of all gun homicides each year.” State governments have already imposed bills that restrict any mental health patient to purchase a gun. But with the 33 states that allow for private sellers to sell firearms with no background checks, potentially shows a prominent reason for guns falling into the wrong hands of people. With the continuing disagreement of both sides to the argument, the United States government has only worsened the situation by not putting their differences aside and failing to focus on protecting the future of our
According to the ATF, there are approximately 55,000 licensed gun dealers in the US plus 8,000 pawn shops with licenses to sell them. With so many stores to sell these guns, it makes it almost impossible to control them each. Who knows how many of these stores lets anyone get away with a gun without a license or background checks. This goes into the idea that these shop owners should also go through a background check and license renewal every year or so, to guarantee genuineness. Not only is it the type of situation which can’t be cured entirely, it can be slowed down, which is why we need better precautions for people buying these
The use of and the owning of guns is a very hot and debated topic in society today. For many, this is a life and death debate due to the recent and numerous school shootings. These school shootings have caused an outcry for more gun control, specifically in relation to the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting. Despite these calls, increased gun control is not the answer. Most gun owners’ use their guns responsibly and for good purposes.
The authors provide two possible reasons why these laws are ineffective; 1) these laws do not effect criminal behavior and their efforts to obtain weapons illegally, and 2) these laws focus on normal gun purchases and don 't account for private sales and guns passed down through families. This article is a very creditable source; one reason is because it looks directly at statistics instead of being based solely on opinion. Secondly, this article is also peer reviewed article; this means that other individuals have critiqued these authors research and found it to be accurate. This source will be very useful to my paper because it takes statistical approach approach the the situation instead of a opinionated one.
Guns are just a tool, like knives and hammers and it completely depends on the people on how they use it. People who support guns and arms say that the Second Amendment secures individual’s right to carry guns with them and that gun rights is needed for self-protection, and was intended for military to have peace and defend the country if needed (Spitzer, 70). Most of the Americans use guns as a source to protect themselves and they believe that gun ownership prevents crime. A study conducted on November 26, 2013 showed that bans on weapons did not significantly affect murder rates at the state level (Lane, 5). Moreover, even if the rules and regulations are executed on gun control, not all criminals obey the law.
U.S President Donald trump received $30 million dollars this year from the National Rifle Association (NRA). In the articles, “Famous Speeches: We call BS, Emma Gonzalez 's speech to gun advocates,” and “Issue overview: Guns in America they talk about how there have been so many school shooting across the world due to random people being able to buy any gun they want without having a license or just being under age. President Donald Trump has apologized so many times for the school shooting that have happened, but not even one time have we done anything to stop these outrages on gun violence. There is a website called, “shootingtracker.com,” it lists all the shootings that have happened all around the world at, what time, place, how many citizens
