Passing gun control legislation that creates a universal background check and gun database system as well as passing mental health legislation that improves the health care system’s protocols and policies for assisting people with mental health disorders and that enacts counseling programs in communities and schools will decrease the likelihood of mass shootings in schools. The United States is bitterly divided. Issues of great concern, such as the rise of mass shootings, are partisanized. Both sides of the debate will not comprise or listen to what their opponents have to say. Groups from both sides can only agree that one innocent life taken from gun violence is one too many.
On December 14th, 2012, the lives of thousands, and indirectly millions changed after the shooting of twenty children and six teachers were fatally shot by the infamous Sandy Hook Elementary school shooter, Adam Lanza. This event was so dramatic and sickening the world stopped in it’s tracks waiting for what was going to happen next. In the aftermath of the tragedy, the cauldron was stirred and the underlying question resurfaced; What should we do about gun control laws? Should the people of America even have guns? After a number of shootings occurring and Sandy Hook occurring, Barrack Obama addressed the event and spoke about “reducing gun violence” and promoting “gun safety” drawing many citizens to support his cause.
Parents have a larger responsibility over their own youth than the government having a responsibility over all of our youth. According to James Alan Fox in Mass Shootings in America: Moving Beyond Newtown, parents have the biggest responsibility over their kids playing violent video games. “To the extent that youngsters spend endless hours being entertained by violence says more about the lack of parental supervision and control. It isn 't that the entertainment media are so powerful; it is that our other institutions - family, school, religion, and neighborhood - have grown weaker with respect to socializing children…” Fox is trying to get at one thing here, and this is that we may think these violent video games were made to be addicting
Mental illness significantly affects many around the world. In fact, about four-hundred and fifty million people worldwide suffer from one or more of the different known mental illnesses. That is one in every four people. Severe mental health issues such as severe anxiety disorder, antisocial personality disorder, schizophrenia, or sensory perception disorder are illnesses which are common among the people responsible for the numerous mass shootings in America. Many believe the possession of firearms in the hands of the mentally ill are the real cause of mass shootings.

Considering the increase in gun violence there has been no media response where there should be. Nowaday almost about anybody can obtain a gun; even kid are obtaining them. Incidents ranging from minors being shot and killed, law enforcement being shot and kill, and much more. But if there was a public response, in present day America where gun violence is at its max, there is sure to be a lot of negative controversy surrounding it.
As of now in 2017 the world is different and more complex. Massacres and terrorists attack rome many cities and people are now fearful of the lives. As of recently, one of the biggest American massacres has happened according to USAToday,”With at least 59 dead and with about 400 injured, the incident is the worst mass shooting in modern American history. The prior mass shooting with the highest death toll was an attack at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Fla., in June 2016 in which 49 people were killed and 58 injured.” But back in 2000, criminal treaty were just being established and the Immigration and Naturalization Service was protecting the jailed immigrants instead of trying to throw them out.
Mass shootings in American and international schools have increased in the last few decades. This increase in violence has left behind thousands of survivors who are left to suffer from several possible mental health ailments, most commonly Post-Traumatic Stress Syndrome. While mental health professionals have long treated PTSD in adults and children, it has grown in commonality and changed in the sense that it is now centered around children. New research has given the potential to more accurately and quickly identify children’s psychological treatment needs to better aid the treatment process for the children. While complete prevention of such attacks would be ideal, it is impossible as governments and societies have long held ideas and notions

The frequencies of the occurrence of these mass shootings have desensitized many of the public. These mass shootings bring up an important issue and question at hand. Does limiting access to assault weapons reduce crime, more importantly mass shootings?

Aside from the countless homicides and suicides by firearm in this country, one particular issue within this predicament is mass shootings, with the most recent mass shooting occurring on February 14th, 2018 at a high school in Parkland, Florida where 17 people were killed. Although, it may seem like an easy fix to just implement gun control laws into our society to eliminate gun violence, but it is important to note that Americans own nearly half of all firearms globally, which is roughly 325 million guns;

The shootings have resulted in 547 deaths and 1,023 casualties. Mass shootings are only responsible for a very small percentage of deaths in the United States, but mass shootings are happening more often than ever, a mass shooting happens on average one time a month.
The number of incidents of gun violence last year in the United States was about 60,000. In recent years, the number of mass shooting has risen to about one mass shooting per day in the United States. The country is divided with some wanting to reevaluate our gun control laws and either ban or add additional regulations to the purchase of guns. Others say it is our right for Americans to own guns and something the founding fathers considered important to put in the Bill of Rights. The number of firearm sales has risen with the number of mass shooting many Americans question if banning guns or certain guns could help decrease the number of gun violence deaths.
Everyday in the United States, ninety families are changed forever; guns claim an average of ninety lives every day in the United States, 33,000 lives in a single year. Gun control has been a debate in the United States for many years and is constantly thrusted back into the public’s attention by horrific shootings. These shootings constantly cause individuals to petition the government to place stricter and stricter regulations of guns. However, these policies cannot be the solution to this problem. To determine a solution that will be both effective and constitutional, we must look at statistics and research that has been conducted to determine the best course of action.
