Heated debates over gun control, more specifically gun violence, have monopolized the media as more events such as the Harper High School shooting continue to plague the United States. Due to public misperception and shortsighted stereotyping, This American Life examined the effects of this social phenomenon and attempted to achieve a better understanding of life at Harper High by interviewing the people who knew it best ‒ the students. Conflict theory and functionalism were utilized to describe the mutual effort between personnel and students to continue to revert back to what Harper High once was and serve as an example to other schools all around the country.
