As a final point, this chapter talks about the statistics of crime and how it effects the law-abiding citizens. Lott shows to the world how concealed firearms can change citizens lives for the better in this book. In Lott’s argument, he urges for those who haven’t taken advantage of their second amendment to do so. This argument has been effective overall due to his supporting evidence of crime rates and how people lives are changed with a way to protect their
Many people who read the article would be familiar with Columbine, the movie theater in Aurora, or some of the other university shootings that have occurred. By using those examples it shows that Goldberg researched the events that took place, and shares the experience of victims or family members to the reader. The events that occurred at every location imply that gun free zones are not completely free of those who want to commit a crime. In Goldberg’s statement, “There is no proof to support the idea that concealed carry permit holders create more violence in society than would otherwise occur,” (Goldberg 74) He makes an informed opinion on conceal carry permit holders.
January 14, 1990 appearing in Parade Magazine the article ‘The Right to Bear Arms’ by Warren E. Burger, Chief Justice of the United States, discusses gun violence in America, Gun regulations, and the Constitution. In the article Burger brings to light the massacres and deaths to support his stance on gun regulations, while supporting how important guns are to the American people. He mentions in his article the difference between “Saturday night Specials” and sporting guns, the state militias, and the history of 13 original colonies to show reader’s supporting facts and statistics for why America is needing gun regulations. “Many of our large centers have up to 10 times the murder rate of all of Western Europe. In 1988, there were 9000 handgun
Justin Cronin’s “Confessions of a Liberal Gun Owner” is a dynamic op-ed explaining his social and political dilemma of being an armed leftist. Residing in Texas, he is not arguing to outlaw guns, but rather regulate the accessibility of guns. The author is a self-described devout democrat, but explains his reasoning and logic behind his right to bear arms. He effectively defends his use of the second amendment and the need for regulation by the use of his personal anecdotes that served as a counterargument. Cronin surrounds his argument by explaining his circumstances regarding gun ownership.
People say it is not the guns; it is the people-, tremendously true, but guns do actually play a factor, they are the tool people use in the mass shootings, the United States has the highest gun owner rate and the highest mass shooting rate; the article written by Emma Gonzalez, “Famous Speeches: “We Call BS,” Emma Gonzalez Speech To Gun Activists”, and another article written by Bloomberg, “Issue Overload: Guns in America”. These two articles differentiate in multiple contrasting ways but are also similar in many different ways, the way the articles perspectives are written and the goals of the articles. The article by Emma Gonzalez and the passage written by Bloomberg compare to each other in numerous ways. The two articles similarities
The issue of allowing the carrying of concealed weapons in Texas has stirred controversy due to recent events of gun violence throughout the United States, law enforcement in Texas have now taken into consideration how the impact of this Law will affect the criminal justice field. According to Lindsay Bramston “Texas Police Chief Express Concern Over Open Carry Law” in an interview with Cedar Park Police, Chief Sean Mannix discusses his perception of the law and its effect. The situation that concerns the police chief are the rubric or guidelines, which legislators have written to carry a concealed weapon “what are the requirements of open carry, what about proof of eligibility?”(S. Man nix, personal communication, April 15,2015). In addition,
The sociological concepts behind the majority of all gun control arguments theorize that with stricter laws and regulations criminals and emotionally unstable individuals might be intercepted. Macrosociology, concerning the processes used to distinguish America as a gun culture, holds that constraints on Americans gun usage limits personal options at the micro level. Laws, the legal rules for functioning in society provided by a governing body that is capable of reprimanding those who do not comply, function to prevent gun violence to a degree. The second amendment guarantees protection of rights to keep and bear arms. In America, 37 states abide by the ‘Shall Issue’ providing that, upon completion of specified requirements, a law-abiding person
The state and region that individuals live in greatly determine their opinions on how gun control and amendment application should be interpreted. A study was done 4 months after the sandy hook mass shooting where children were killed, the study determined the belief of gun control after this tragedy. The researcher Kevin H. Wozniak found that, “ [only] a slim majority of Americans favors a semiautomatic weapon ban and proposals to make gun control laws stricter,” (Wozniak 2). Even directly after a mass shooting there is only a slim majority on a weapons ban. This makes it clear that the beliefs of guns in American culture are too deeply rooted and the county has become too dependant on them.

Living Among Guns Lately, there has been many debates going on in the news about firearms and necessary action that should be taken against these deadly weapons. These debates have led many American people to start questioning the laws surrounding gun control and the interpretation of the second amendment that allows the right to bear arms. Even though many Americans don 't have the proper knowledge concerning firearm laws, gun control is a subject that many wish not to discuss, but with the recent incidents that have occurred; this is one issue that should no longer be ignored. 1, 2, 3, 4, Gun Massacres could be knocking at ones school doors. Since 2011 school shootings and other related crimes have been increasing. The two articles goals are to show that the NRA (National Rifle Association) has been selling high leveled guns to anybody without needing a permit. With the rise of school shootings, one would be quick to assume that restricting ownership of firearms would solve the problem. However, the issue stems further than just guns. The tragedy at Virginia Tech may reveal to us something about how a young man could be compelled to commit shocking actions, but it does not advise us very much about gun control. Recently, not many distinguished Americans have tried to use the college massacres as an argument for gun control. A logic for this is that we are in a middle of a presidential race in which popular Republican candidates are mindful that advocating gun control can earn them votes.
The use of and the owning of guns is a very hot and debated topic in society today. For many, this is a life and death debate due to the recent and numerous school shootings. These school shootings have caused an outcry for more gun control, specifically in relation to the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting. Despite these calls, increased gun control is not the answer. Most gun owners’ use their guns responsibly and for good purposes.
Everyday in the United States, ninety families are changed forever; guns claim an average of ninety lives every day in the United States, 33,000 lives in a single year. Gun control has been a debate in the United States for many years and is constantly thrusted back into the public’s attention by horrific shootings. These shootings constantly cause individuals to petition the government to place stricter and stricter regulations of guns. However, these policies cannot be the solution to this problem. To determine a solution that will be both effective and constitutional, we must look at statistics and research that has been conducted to determine the best course of action.
