Changing Montag In the novel Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, the main character Montag, learns and develops throughout the story. Montag morals change from the beginning and the way he thinks and acts change. In this novel there is a couple of characters who try and stop Montag and theirs characters who help Montag to become the person he became at the end. Montag went from a depressed normal person, to a hero to believe in meaning.
Ray Bradbury 's Fahrenheit 451 is about Montag, a fireman who burns books instead of saving them, who questions the government 's decision to outlaw reading all together. Montag 's questioning is brought up when he has a lengthy discussion with his young curious neighbor, Clarisse. This seventeen year old, asked so many questions about life ,and the meaning of things, she also spoke to Montag about the horrible society they live in. Although Clarisse was killed early on in the book, she left an imprint on Montag to speak out against the government and Beatty. Clarisse like all children was curious, she’d spend her days wandering the town looking at flowers and people.

Between Clarisse’s outgoing personality and Mildred’s fear of change Guy Montag is set up to make a choice to go against a society that is largely misguided. Clarisse and Mildred are important to Montag’s life because Clarisse is incredibly interactive towards Guy and open his eyes to see the wrong, his wife, on the other hand, begs montag to keep things the way they are. Clarisse had her strange ways to interpret how society has formed over the years to lessen any confusing matters; although it was often that her strange ways in the category of being antisocial.
In the beginning of the novel, Guy Montag believes fully in the reasoning behind his job, and does not seem to question it at all, as he is characterized as someone who stands up for what he believes in. That is until he meets Clarisse McClellan who makes him stop and ponder on his ways of going about life. He begins to think doubtfully about the burning of books and looks to his conscience to find that maybe burning all of those books was the wrong thing to do. “Maybe the books can get us half out of the cave. They just might stop us from making the same damn insane mistakes!”

In Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451, Montag, the protagonist and book burner, battles between the light and dark sides of society, first with Beatty, his boss, and the government and then with Clarisse, a neighbor girl and Faber, an English professor. Montag is stuck in the dark burning books and is ignorant to the world around him. He moves towards greater awareness when he meets Clarisse and is awakened to the wonders of deep thought and books. Finally, he risks his life by trying to save the books.

Guy Montag, the protagonist of this novel, begins as a firefighter following the government 's instructions to burn books in order to limit individuality. He believes what he is doing is right and never goes ahead to question the morality and the ethics of his society. However after an interaction with Clarisse McClellan, it opens his mind to the world around him and makes him curious. He begins to feel divided between the views that the society has and the ones he begins to develop for himself.

Battle Hardened Life is tough, but being determined leads to success. Determination is firmness of purpose, or having courage. Montag goes through many difficult situations, but his determination allowed him to survive and have success.
