I have been working as a Health Care Assistant for the past five years and feel that this has given me an insight into my Adult Nursing. During my time as a HCA, I felt that there were limitations on what knowledge I had and the duties I could perform. My interest in adult Nursing grew after I witnessed a patient go into cardiac arrest. I was unable to do a great deal apart from watching the doctors and nurses rush over to assist the patient. They were amazing in their ability to react quickly and communicated effectively to ensure that the patient received excellent care. In hindsight this made me want to be part of the team that could save lives. I am aware that the degree that I wish to undertake will be a demanding course that requires dedication and commitment. Being an HCA has not only given me practical skills and made me competent in my ability to take on this course but has also given me compassion and understanding for the caring field. An example is that elderly patients can improve and deteriorate rapidly; thereby the response to their care needs to be exact and rapid. Adult Nurses are invaluable to the NHS and the wider society a whole, they are adaptable and flexible being able to work across different areas. Having had the experience of working in different wards I have seen personally the changing roles of nurses. They provide comfort, advocacy, expertise, and excellent care and manage entire wards at times. Whilst working as a Supporting Time Recovery Worker at a community day centrein 2009 until 2011, I was involved in rehabilitating people back into the community, helping those with mental health problem with getting back into work and providing a place where they were able to
