Many of the heroes worshipped are in “Kami” form which means spirit. The heroes in japan are usually gods or goddesses that are given a shrine and various individuals pay their respects too them. The major heroes and heroines include Hachiman, Amaterasu, Izanagi, and Izanami. Hachiman is the god of war, or better known as the protector of Japan and its people. Hachiman was worshipped by a variety of people but the two most popular are peasants, and samurai warriors. Peasants would pray to hachiman hoping that he would fill their fishing nets and feed them.
