Demeter provided the sirens with wings with the intention of protecting her daughter. However, Persephone was abducted by Hades and Demeter cursed the Sirens as a result, sentenced to an eternity of singing, eternally calling for Persephone’s return.
Demeter was one of the twelve major gods. The Greeks believed that agriculture was the basis of all civilization. Many Greeks lived on Country Farms and made their living, clothing, and food supply by farming. She was one of the most important, and one of the most feared. It was said Demeter thought the moral men how to plant and plow their fields and punished those who offended her.
She went to the underworld and stayed there. Demeter was so worried she started to cry.
Dearest citizens of Thebes, I stand before you today in the trial of Antigone, an innocent Princess who followed her heart in protecting the future of the morals and beliefs of your own city. Antigone clearly is a woman of great integrity, strength and intelligence, just like her royal ancestors that have led our city in the past. Antigone’s so-called “crime” was nothing but a selfless and moral act of compassion for her brother, and something that we as citizens must do, according to the Gods. Therefore, Antigone, a Princess of Thebes, should not be tried for these unjust charges because her act was indeed out of great love for her family, obedience to the law sent from the gods, and an act against the unjust rulings of the city’s hierarchy.
Though he was ignorant of it, Hades was experiencing joy for the first time in thousands of years. He ran, resembling a thrilled infant, toward the Olympian gardens, utterly ignoring his chariot and its horses. After a quarter of an hour, the gods of the underworld and the sky arrived at the gardens, hiding behind a shrub. There, Hades’ love was rolling around in the fields with her companions. Hades fixated your eyes her, so childlike and gorgeous.
The myth is the story of Perseus, the son of Zeus and Danae. As a baby he and his mother were forced into a coffin by his grandfather, Acrisius, and were sent out into sea to perish. They didn 't drown, however, they floated to land until they were found by a king, Polydectes. The king fell in love with Perseus ' mother and wanted to wed her, her refused so she could spend time caring for her son. After Perseus had grown into a young man Polydectes sent him on a mission to kill Medusa in a hope it would bring Perseus ' death, the king thought that with her son gone the woman she loved would marry him.
This is very different to the myth. In the myth, Hera it the one who sent the snakes down to kill Hercules, not Hades. She absolutely loathes him. She is so upset about her husband’s infidelity, she tries to get a baby killed. The change in the movie can be attributed to the common moral of monogamy.
Imagine arguing with someone, despritly trying to get your point across but they just wont interperate your point of view. You raise your voice gradually until a slight crack in your voice, you stop and realize theres no hope in yelling anymore. In the play “Antigone” written back in the B.C era by Sophocles, There are many persuasive arguements in the play using the classic greek appeals of ethos, pathos, and logos. These arguements are dealt by key charectors such as Antigone, ismene, haimon, creon, and teiresias.
Good afternoon New Trier board members. As a New Trier graduate of 2026 and the head of editorial in the New York Times, I’ve come today to urge you to continue teaching The Odyssey. Often referred to as one of the all time greatest works of fiction, Homer’s The Odyssey is over 2800 years old and still read today. As an ancient poem, not even originally written in English, some question what is so special about this.
Have you ever wanted to make a situation right for someone else, so much that you would do anything to fix it for them? When a person cares a lot for someone they love, a family member for example, they often times would sacrifice anything for them to be happy again. In Antigone by Sophocles, the main character Antigone gets sentenced to death by the King Creon after disobeying him for giving her brother Polyneices, a proper burial that she believed he deserved. Creon thought he should be left out in the sun for his body to rot, to make up for his act of treason. Antigone made a sacrifice for her brother that she also tried to convince her sister Ismene to join in on.
On a reading of the Homeric Hymn to Demeter which regards Persephone, Demeter's daughter, as being representative of spring, the myth of Persephone's kidnapping by Hades can be interpreted as allegorical of the changing of the seasons. In particular, Persephone can be considered as a metaphor for the planting of seeds. While she is kept underground in the realm of Hades during the winter, no crops are grown and the land is barren. However, as the winter transitions into the spring Persephone emerges from the underworld, much like a budding plant, and reunites with her mother and the other Olympian gods and goddesses above ground. When Persephone is relegated to live with Hades she falls into a depression and becomes, figuratively speaking,
The poem, “Hades to Persephone”, describes how Hades pleads to Persephone for her to “Convince [him] that [she] want to be here; / It’s not [his] trick that keeps [her] so near. / [She] chose [him]. [She]

Sent down as a “gifts”, one of which was an irresistibly beautiful women. Pandora was her name. Pandora had be sent down with another gift, but she was forbidden to open it. Zeus sent her down to Epimetheus, brother of Prometheus.
The story of Pluto or Hades and Proserpina or Persephone has over time been interpreted as a romantic love story between the goddess of spring and the god of the underworld. The story is an epic poem told from an omniscient third-person point of view and the original Metamorphoses was written in Latin. After Pluto is struck by Cupid’s arrow at Venus’ order, he
