To better understand the history of the two holidays, we should look at where it all first began. An ancient Celtic festival of Samhain about 2,000 years ago was when Halloween was first created. This celebration took place on October 31st and it marked the end of summer, the harvest and the beginning of winter. During this time, winter resembled a cold and dark time which was often
One day my sister Dakota, my uncle Raven, my mom, and I went to a farm the day before Halloween. At first we were just going to get a few pumpkins but then, I saw a corn maze. I asked my mom “ Can we go in it, please,” My mom said,” If it is free.” I told her thanks. We went to a pumpkin patch to get a couple pumpkins.
Dia de los Muertos is a Mexican “ memorial day” that celebrates the lives of those who have passed. As a beautiful honor to this day, Mr. Garcia’s Spanish class, was given the task of making a little altar for either a family member or celebrity. Shadow boxes were made with pictures and decorations to represent the person; also posters with a background story were created. To show all the beautiful projects and honor each chosen person, a memorial was set up at the library displaying the student’s hard work. Besides our school, our community was ready to celebrate and honor this day as well.
Halloween On October 31 every year we celebrate a holiday known as Halloween. Celebrating consists of traditional activities such as: trick-or-treating, haunted houses, dressing up as your favorite character, carving jack-o-lanterns. There’s tons of fun stuff to do on Halloween, but there’s tons of history behind it as well. For starters, did you know that in Ohio, Massachusetts, and Iowa Trick-or-treating is referred to as Beggars Night?
Today I will be talking about the holiday we call Halloween. Halloween is where we all dress up in costumes and get candy from houses on the thirty first of October. Here are three things about halloween. First, I am going to be talking the history of halloween.
Today I am honored to be standing here presenting the Conn Smythe trophy to my friend Duncan Keith. The Conn Smythe is awarded to the most valuable player during the Stanley Cup Playoffs. I first heard of this tremendous defensemen back in the 2009-10 season where he helped prevail the Chicago Blackhawks to their first Stanley Cup victory since 1961. It seems like Duncan never has a bad season and makes very few mistakes on the ice. The amount of time he puts into this game really shows his dedication and love for hockey.
The annual Phi Alpha Theta (PAT) initiation brunch is one of the most exciting events to take place every year. It took place on Friday, March 18, 2016 at the Alta Vista Country Club in Placentia and it was nice to see familiar faces, while meeting the new members of the organization. Guest enjoyed some omelets, prime rib, and pancakes, while Dr. William Haddad gave a powerful talk entitled “An Ode to Secular Tyrants: Reflections on the History of the Modern Middle East.” After the keynote, address came the initiation ceremony that included the traditional reading of the “Six Ages” of History. Thirty-six new members joined the ranks of Phi Alpha Theta and became apart of something much bigger-

The Noise On the night of Halloween all of the myths and legends of the supernatural come true. And these are not just children dressed up. These supernatural beings are real. I am going to tell you the story of my encounter with one of these beings.
We all know that on halloween the creepiest of things happen, this is what makes it so great to me. My best friend Blair and I have always celebrated halloween together. Blair and I have been friends since birth, our moms have also been best friends since they were very young. Since we were little we have always liked the same things but halloween was our favorite.
Cake and candy on the same day – it’s every kid’s dream! I hope this kid can get a good dentist, especially from October to
Oktoberfest is the world’s largest beer festival. It takes place annually in late September and early October. Although there are many incarnations throughout the world, the original and most popular festival is in Munich, Germany, where Oktoberfest originated. Traditionally, about six million people from every corner of the earth come to celebrate Wiesn, as the locals call it, every year. The first Oktoberfest celebration was in 1810.
One of the most-awaited moments of the year is right here once again. Dim neighborhoods are brightened by ghastly smiles of Jack-o '-lanterns in communities where the breeze is also slowly getting colder and the leaves that have fallen off of pines give each step a crunch. In a few days, children dressed like pirates, princesses, ghouls, and little monsters will be knocking on doors requesting goodies and several other goodies. Yet just before Halloween begins, you can delight the kids in your community by teaming up with several moms and dads and arranging a Halloween scavenger quest.
I. Attention Grabber: What would life be like if we didn’t have memories? A. I don’t know about you guys, but I would be missing a significant part of my life without my memories. II.
