The political group Hamas has led to the death of many innocent civilians, while also funding the Palestinians, providing them schools, mosques, hospitals, and much more. In conflict with multiple groups, Hamas is trying to keep government control of Palestine while also attempting to put fear into the Israeli people and government. Different sides have different viewpoints on Hamas, and the group’s radical actions have made a large impact on the Arab-Israeli movement. Hamas is an acronym in Arabic that means The Islamic Resistance Movement. Hamas is a militant Palestinian group that promotes violence against Israel, while also providing social help to Palestine. Hamas uses terrorism, such as rocket attacks, suicide bombings, and stabbings, to put fear into Israel. Israel then retaliates, and it leads to more deaths by counter-attacks. For example, Operation Pillar of Defense was launched by Israel in November 2012 to punish Hamas for the excessive rocket attacks. Also, Hamas launched rockets at Israel for not lifting the blockade on the Gaza Strip. In return, an assault known as Operation Cast lead was instituted by Israel, and it led to over one thousand Palestinian deaths. These examples show that when Hamas uses terrorism, Israel reciprocates with other forms of violence. In the past, Hamas believed that peace was not the answer and that they should get rid of all the Jews in Israel and the West Bank. Recently, a Palestinian Authority official said that Hamas accepted the two-state solution, which states that Israel recognizes Palestine as its own country, Israeli people are withdrawn from the West Bank, and that the Palestinian violence stops. Most of the western world opposes the tactics used by Hamas, while the Muslim and Arab world supports them and believes that their violence is justified.
