Hamilton An American Musical, is a musical written by Lin-Manuel Miranda. The actors in this musical are Lin-Manuel Miranda, Phillipa Soo, Leslie Odum Jr, Renee Elise Goldsberry, Anthony Ramos, Christopher Jackson, Daveed Diggs, and Okieriete Onaodowan. Thomas Kail is the man who directed this amazing musical. The places to view this musical is on Broadway in New York, The PrivateBank Theatre in Chicago, and on tour. The theme of this musical is to explain the life of Alexander Hamilton, one of America’s founding fathers. I saw this musical in Chicago at The PrivateBank Theatre on July 11, 2017.

The props and stage set were set up and looked like old buildings that you would see during the time Hamilton was alive. The costumes matched exactly to what they wore in the time period. You could look back at old pictures and see that they look almost exactly the same. The only makeup I could see was makeup to make them stand out on stage. Sometimes, the lights shining to the stage can make you look like a ghost. Makeup in this performance was used to focus on the characters. Special costumes that were needed were costumes that matched what they wore during the Revolutionary war, after the war when they were dealing with the government, and what the ladies wore. The costumes and makeup perfectly fit and added to the whole production of Hamilton. They helped to explain the musical even more. The lightning produced the perfect mood, emphasis, and brightness. It didn't take away from the play at all. Also, it helped to focus on the scenes on the stage. The sound effects and music helped to better understand and follow Hamilton’s story. It was also entertaining and fun to listen to the songs and kept people very interested. The orchestra contained about ten people, and it fit perfectly. Since it is more of a modern piece, and orchestra isn't really needed. There was some special lightings and sounds used to emphasize certain parts in Hamilton’s story and in the songs. Everyone who has seen the play can walk out and know some parts of Hamilton’s life. During the musical, the audience was interested and clearly followed along The whole time. They clapped and cheered at appropriate times, and when one of the characters cracked a joke or did something funny, the audience would laugh. It was silent when anyone died. My opinion is that the musical was perfect. It was so fun and entertaining to follow along. The characters, the music, the props, everything was amazing and I hope I can see it again one day. It helps that it is more modern and easier to understand for people my age and younger. My overall impression of the performance was great. I could tell that each one of the characters was fully dedicated to and gave one-hundred percent to portraying their characters perfectly. My overall impression of the experience was great as well. I had so much fun, the production was amazing, and I would definitely see it
