The musical “Hamilton” is about the life of U.S. Founding Father Alexander Hamilton. The author Lin-Manuel Miranda uses music to talk about his life and explain many historical events that happened in the beginning of the United States of America. This musical is able to reach people and teach them about history and help them understand it in a more meaningful way. There are both strengths and limitations to this musical (relating to history) but overall it is a very good way to learn and begin to understand this history. Yes, I believe this is a good way to learn history. There are many factors that make it not equal to a history text book in getting the real facts but the many benefits from it being a musical outweigh them. I, myself, feel personally invested in the lives of the characters because I am able to see into the life of Alexander Hamilton. This causes me to be concerned with what happens in the story and why. Conclusively I am more interested and remember what is happening with this history. I feel like I am almost present while these events were happening. Students who are listening to Hamilton in class definitely get very involved. Linda Flanagan from mind shift said: “Hamilton works in the classroom — and the theater — because these founding fathers aren’t bloodless, two-dimensional cutouts who devoted their lives to abstract principles. Rather, they’re husbands, rivals, fathers, friends, lovers — all of them human, and afflicted with vices along with their virtues: pride, arrogance, anger, envy, lust and greed.
