In the journey to discover the meaning of life, people experience a wide range of emotions and conflicts within themselves. At other times, the conflicts are with other people who surround us in the society. It the story Hamlet by William Shakespeare, the idea of human spirit and the difficulties that may occur due to internal conflicts within us is made apparent by the characters in the paly. Hamlet has a range of experiences and crisis in his life thus depicting the life of a typical young man of his time. Hamlet, the main character in the play is the Prince of Denmark, son of Queen Gertrude and King Hamlet who is murdered by his brother Claudius. The uncle serves as a flesh and blood expression of theses repressed fantasies since killing him would be murder on his already self-loathing self. Hamlet is unable to revenge against the man who killed his father and inherited his mother because he shows him the repressed wishes of his own wishes. “Such bitter business at the day, would quake to look on: soft, now to my mother (Shakespeare 25). His conscious and self-reproaches replace the loathing which ought to drive him to revenge despite being able to do anything. The “clincher” to “The problem” as described in the Freud’s solution has to do with both the delay in killing Claudius by Hamlet as well as the actual murder of Claudius. The event can only happen after his mother has died since the prince is now free to act as his repressed guilt has been eliminated. His uncle thus represents a deep part of his own personality meaning that the prince could not kill him without killing his personality. Similar to the solution offered by Freud, is shown as the motive suicide.
