Have you ever read a play by William Shakespeare? If so you will notice that the opening and closing scenes have a big impact on the entire play. In the play ,The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince Of Denmark, the opening scene introduces the characters, setting, and plot. The play, Hamlet, takes place in Elsinore, it is introduced with Hamlet’s father’s death and the new King Fortinbras that were in a war with Old King Hamlet. Shakespeare uses the closing scene to “provide restoration and fit ending,”(educator) this keeps you from wondering what's going to happen. In the play there is much corruption and betrayal in the kingdom. Prince Hamlet has been set on a mission by the ghost, Old King Hamlet, to seek revenge on the man who had killed him in the garden - Claudius. Knowing that Hamlet is seeking revenge Claudius is looking for ways to stop Hamlet from proving his guilt and harming anyone and stopping what he has always wanted. Claudius has put together a way to stop hamlet and have no flaws, Claudius has organized a duel between Laertes and Prince Hamlet. Claudius’ plan backfired on him and killed him, Queen Gertrude, Laertes, and Prince Hamlet killed. In the end, Prince Hamlet died and left his dear friend Horatio to tell the truth about what really happened. Also King Fortinbras came back from battle and got Hamlet’s vote and said, “for he was likely put on, proved most royal,” (5.2 397-405) agreeing Prince Hamlet would be a great king.
