Human nature is to want revenge when betrayed. No matter the nature of the betrayal, the one affected will want some form of revenge. This is a flaw in the human DNA, because it has caused, and will continue to cause a cycle of betrayal. In the play Hamlet, Hamlet the son to the old king is seeking revenge against his uncle, because he betrayed him by killing his father, and marrying his mother. Hamlet wants revenge for the death of his father. But he won't realize he is betraying all of the ones he loves the most in the process, because his judgement is clouded with his emotions, and his insanity. At this point in his life he has lost his father, his mother, and the one he loved (Ophelia), because of this he doesn't think clearly and acts irrationally. When he was talking to his mother there was movement behind the arras and Hamlet killed Polonius by “Thrusting a rapier through the arras” (Shakespeare 3.4.25-30). He does this because he thought it was Claudius, but because of it he is sentenced to death, and Ophelia goes mad. Hamlet is able to stay alive by changing the letter that Claudius wrote to have him killed. But, because of her father's death and Hamlet betraying her Ophelia went insane and “drowned” (Shakespeare 4.7.189). But in reality she killed herself. Hamlet was so caught up in getting revenge that he disregarded everyone around him. Furthermore proving his judgement was clouded and that caused him to continue the cycle of betrayal. Hamlets need for revenge and his clouded judgement caused him to betray everyone around him. This all started from one man betraying his family because of greed. This sparked the human nature in Hamlet to want revenge when betrayed, because no matter the nature of it some form of revenge will happen.
