Hamlet, fakes to be crazy “I must be cruel only to be kind”, in order to avenge his father’s death by killing his murderer, Claudius. During that journey, Hamlet encounters hardships which leads to the people he loves and his own death. Old Hamlet’s death and the ghost are the catalysts to why Hamlet estranges himself from his family, friends, and country. While he was still grieving for his father’s death, Hamlet’s mother decides to marry his uncle and father’s murder, Claudius. Hamlet begins to think that maybe his mother was involved in his father’s death which leads him to be uncertain whether or not his mother truly loved his father causing their relationship to estrange. Hamlet being unsure of where his mother stands, speculates on the idea of suicide, however, he does not take his own life because it is against his religion. Further, Hamlet is not able to be in a healthy relationship with Ophelia because he is afraid that one’s life can be easily forgotten. In contrast, Claudius has his own personal plan to eliminate his nephew. He recruits Hamlet’s friends from the University, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, in order to investigate why Hamlet is isolating himself from his family. Claudius later informs Hamlet that he, Hamlet, will be sailing to England with his two friends.
