What traits would one believe to be those of a hero? Heroes are often brought to mind as selflessness, passion, ambition and many more characteristics. The traits that often define a tragic hero are ones such as these, but they also display a tragic flaw that leads to their downfall. In Shakespearean tragedies, the title of the play is always named after the main character; therefore, in The Tragedy of Hamlet: Prince of Denmark and The Tragedy of Macbeth, they are both respected noblemen that experience an extreme descent from their apex due to a tragic flaw. Several traits transcend time from the Renaissance period to modern heroes; one of the many heroes that can relate to Hamlet and Macbeth would be Tony Fowler. On the outside, he may appear to be an average milkman, but when the list of his good deeds are revealed, one can see he is much more than that. During an interview with the press, Tony Fowler stated, "I've done everything from helping to save people's lives to getting the lid off a jar of pickles for one of my older customers” (Tony Fowler). The protagonist of this drama, Hamlet, is an extremely cunning, nobleman attempting to avenge his father’s spirit but in his actions he is also a tragic hero. His imperfection that plays a big hand in his downfall is instead impatience or impulsiveness. Hamlet’s impulses of emotions would be the cause of Polonius’s murder at the hands of the hero.
