However, he is not the one who is truly responsible. Instead, Claudius’ actions, as the one who murdered King Hamlet in cold blood, serves as the true motivation for Hamlet’s behaviors and deteriorating psyche. One Flaw Can Change Anything No one is perfect. We are all created with flaws, but what we do with our flaws can make us a better person or lead to our demise. In the play Hamlet by William Shakespeare, Hamlet has one tragic and fatal flaw that leads to his downfall. Hamlet is unable to follow through with his promise to a ghost about avenging his father’s death.
Hamlet by William Shakespeare is a play about how an incestuous betray of a king by his own wife and blood brother brings the entire empire to its knees. The apparition King Hamlet confirms the betrayal when it tells Hamlet that he suffered a “most unnatural murder" whereby the redundancy of this phrase sets the murder from any other type of murder witnessed on earth. Specifically, the word “unnatural” emphasizes the untimeliness of the murder rather than its gruesomeness. The apparition of King Hamlet further reveals the betrayal of the Queen and her brother in law King Claudius by complaining that “Thus was I, sleeping, by a brother’s hand/Of life, of crown, of queen at once dispatched/Cut off even in the blossoms of my sin” (Shakespeare 1.5.81).
The idea that our actions could be meaningless is one that is not uncommon for one to ponder; though a troubling thought, it cannot be denied that once an individual is dead, their previous actions don't make any difference to things anymore. This idea is elaborated on by two great writers, William Shakespeare and T. S. Eliot. A universal theme about the futility of life is shared in Shakespeare's Hamlet and Eliot's The Wasteland. In Shakespeare's play, the main character, Hamlet, regularly has doubtful and somewhat nihilistic views on his life.
In Shakespeare’s iconic play, Hamlet, the theme of humanity and its faults is a huge aspect of the play. Hamlet says in a monologue, “what a piece of work is a man” (Ham. 2. 2.). This famous quotation relates to humankind’s skills. Human beings are the only creatures on the Earth with the ability to form complex thoughts and feelings. While reading the play, one is exposed to the inner workings and thoughts of Prince Hamlet’s mind.
Over Thinking and Its Effects On Society Everyone has flaws and flaws are great to have as it increases diversity, but sometimes flaws some flaws can lead to destruction. In the story of Macbeth the tragic flaw of unchecked ambition that created a monstrous Macbeth and multiple murders of innocent people, leading to Macbeth’s unruly power and greed. While in the story of Hamlet the tragic flaw of overthinking and Hamlet’s procrastination resulted in a domino effect of unnecessary deaths because he was unable to think quickly and follow through with his plan. The flaw of over thinking and inaction results in a world where no one can accomplish what needs to be done and our world can no longer progress at a faster rate.
Hamlet’s Tragic Flaw A tragedy is supposed to arouse the emotions of the audience in a way that makes them feel hopeful. The hero of the story must be of some sort of royalty, so that they can suffer from their conflict. A tragic hero more than likely has a certain problem or conflict that he has to face. The conflict could be either self-inflicted or created by nature. In the tragedy Hamlet, Hamlet’s conflict was cause by his own emotions and flaws.
The will of my most seeming-virtuous queen” (I.V. 45-46). He used sexual behaviors to seduce the queen for the sake of the pleasure of the crown and a wife, actions driven by his id. Looking at Claudius’s id allows one to understand why he was able to commit such terrible sins, as the instinctual, unconscious desire for immediate pleasure gave him the reason to ignore societal values and
Revenge is in human nature. There many aspects to consider in every action taken in the name of vengeance. One has to understand the relationship, the person and the actual act of revenge. Human nature is unpredictable, just like revenge is. In the play Hamlet, Shakespeare writes about the nature of vengeance and what it truly provides people.
In every state or country or society, there is a distinctive or organization of power. The Shakespearean world likes to keep constant with the idea of morality and being moral in the society. Anyone who tends to drift away from this morality seems to be considered as corrupted. In Shakespeare’s Hamlet, this morality is failed to be followed by several different characters which arose this idea of corruption. The idea put forth by Marcellus that 'something is rotten in the state of Denmark ' is first presented in Act I as two issues; the murder of the late King Hamlet and the incestuous marriage of Claudius and Gertrude.
Hamlet is William Shakespeare 's renowned tale of mystery, intrigue, and murder, centered on a young misguided prince who can only trust himself. Some may say that the actions of Prince Hamlet throughout the play are weak and fearful, displaying a tendency to procrastinate and showing an apathetic nature towards his family and peers. Others spin a tale of a noble young scholar, driven mad by the cold-blooded murder of his father by his uncle. In truth, I believe Hamlet is neither of these things. Hamlet is a sort of amalgamation of the two, a bundle of contradictions thrown together into one conflicting but very human mess of a character.
Through the entirety of the play “Hamlet” by William Shakespeare, the characters were overcome with the need for revenge as the outcome of many deaths. Therefore, no one was happy through “Hamlet” and it resulted in a tragedy. The character Hamlet played a big role in turning towards revenge and never would classify himself as being happy. Hamlet displays positive and negative behavior throughout the play. Hamlet exhibits strengths and weaknesses as well, although his weaknesses of over-thinking, bitterness, and his inability to accept the death of his father overshadow his strengths.
