Hamlet’s Inability
“To be, or not to be: that is the question: Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer” (Shakespeare 63). Hamlet never knew what he wanted except for one thing. That was revenge for his father’s death, which came by the hand of his uncle. The narrative in this story is based around this fact, However with Shakespeare, there will be a twist that will make this story as one of the most memorable stories in literature. Everyone knows the famous or infamous words “To be, or not to be:” (Shakespeare 63). The meaning of the short five words varies differently from person to person based on their interpretation of them. Laertes is a foil to Hamlet, he is this brash, bold, and a strong willed imposing man, whereas, Hamlet is either not in that manner is is in his current state or he is very depressed from the loss of his father. Hamlet’s unwillingness to act cost him his life he had several opportunities to step up and depose his uncle, but he never did so. “King Claudius, as seen in William Shakespeare’s Hamlet, is both intelligent and well-spoken, two traits that, put together, complement his manipulative and dangerous nature. In fact, though it is his conscience that makes Claudius such a complex villain.” (The Manipulative Nature...). With all of that being said Hamlet has a chance right off the bat to claim his throne become a king and rule the land, however instead he fell into a depression. Claudius Speech to Hamlet shortly after his father’s
