Gilead is a totalitarian government, a government that wants complete control and devotion from it’s citizens. In Gilead you have no religious freedom, no control of what you can do, you always have eyes on you, and always live in fear of the government. For these reason my family would not fare well living in Gilead. In Gilead the government wants complete devotion from its citizens, any other devotion would be a risk to the government. Because of this religion is something that is not tolerated. Religion would create a devotion to something other than the state and could be used as tool to overthrow the government. Religion is very important to my family, especially to my parents. I grew up going to church every weekend it was a big part of my life. In Gilead my family would be in severe risk of getting in trouble for practicing religion. I think my family would still practice their religion in secret even knowing the punishments they might face. Which would likely be hanging from the walls like the others, too fear others from practicing religion. In Gilead they force to take on roles assigned to you by the government. You are to be either a house servant or a handmaid. They also stip you away of many of the daily things for women in day to day life. Like going reading, who you can talk to, and even going shopping by yourself. This would not be compatible with my family. In my family my mom is the complete opposite of those, she hates to clean, cook, and stay at the house all the time. She has a full time job and work very hard at it. She loves to go out and have fun with friends. Same goes with my sister she goes to college and is graduating next year. Both of them are very vocal of their opinions and would definitely not fit great in a society like
