The play Cyrano de Bergerac is about a love triangle between Roxane, Cyrano, and Christian. Christian and Cyrano desire Roxane’s love, but Christian has the upper hand because of his outer beauty. Cyrano writes letters conveying his love to Roxane, but allows Christian to use them as his own. Christian wins Roxane’s heart by deceit and eventually realizes that Roxane only loves the fake version of him. Although Christian uses Cyrano, he is a noble and honest man because he wants to tell Roxane regardless of how he feels about her.
The works of Thornton Wilder in Our Town inspects two families to their inevitable end, while unraveling the simple aspects of every single human experience. The use of certain characters displays these aspects. Emily, in particular, plays a large roll showing the diverseness of every being. She shows the logical thinking young woman who dreams to one day be a leader, while also showing the emotional bride to be who eventually becomes a mother.
Since then mother has been upset, and when Ha looks in her mother's eyes she claims she sees sadness. Ha has daydreamed about her father and even wished on her birthday that her, “Father would appear in our doorway and make Mother’s lips curl upward, lifting them from a permanent frown of worries.” Ha mostly wished for this because she knows how much it hurts her mother to know that he may never come back. Ha could have easily wished for a toy or something that a child wanted, but she wished for her father, not for herself, but for her mother.
Not only that, as Homer becomes a popular figure in town and is seen taking Emily on buggy rides on Sunday afternoons, it scandalizes the town and increases the condescension and pity they have for Emily. They feel that she is forgetting her family pride and becoming involved with a man beneath her station. Even though Emily is from the high class family, it does not mean that she is living up to the pleasant lifestyle. As a matter of fact, she is actually living a gloomy and desolate life, which is essentially the opposite lifestyle expected for Emily's rank in society by the townspeople. Although Emily once represented a great southern tradition centering on the landed gentry with their vast holdings and considerable resources, Emily's legacy has devolved, making her more a duty and an obligation than a romanticized vestige of a dying order.
In the 1800’s people have created American values that they abide by. Compassion, Patriotism and strength are some of many American Values. These three values are in all three tales, but each tale magnifies one of the three American Values. In Rip Van Winkle compassion is shown as an American Value. Compassion is shown toward wolf and Rip Van Winkle.
In many situations, the people within the town notice Miss Emily’s odd behavior, but they choose to maintain peace with her instead of helping her when she clearly needs it the most. However, this need to preserve the respectful image of Miss Emily ultimately leads to her emotional breakdown of isolation and
Thoroughly Modern Millie is a play about a young woman who moves from Kansas to New York City so she can make something of herself. The story was originally wrote by Richard Morris and Kent State’s production of the play was directed by Terri Kent. The play it set in New York City in the 1920’s. Prior to play I believed that it was going to be set in modern times due to the title, after a few minutes in though I discovered the play was set in the roaring twenties, which made me quite excited for the rest of the play because of all the cultural contributions that occurred during the time period.
Even the narrator’s often disjointed accounts of the past all push towards a fond remembrance and need without a want in today’s society. “an eyesore among eyesores” Miss Emily’s house was called, that was to show that even with its cobwebs and peeling paint this building stood as a testament to an age long gone, a
Hearing about how people meet, fall in love, and become one flesh is beautiful in so many different ways. Every couple has their unique story and every spouse has their own way of telling it. Asking my parents or any other couple questions is always fun, especially when it is about them and their relationship. My parents have been married for twenty years! Last month they celebrated their twentieth anniversary and went to Lake Tahoe, California.
Contrasting and Comparing You may think the play and movie of “A Christmas Carol” are the same. Well you are quite mistaken. In the Play and Movie they are very different from each other. Oscar Wilde’s satirical play The Importance of Being Earnest, set in the late Victorian era, London, is a portrayal of British upper class society and its conventions surrounded by a strict code of conduct. In 1890’s class society, earnestness was desired; to follow the moral code and social obligations in order to keep up one’s appearance. Besides, there was a huge gender disparity between men and women. In the play, Wilde criticizes the social inequality and Victorian upper class standards. He characterizes Victorian personae making fun of their qualities; hypocrisy, arrogance and absurdism, ultimately the very vital state and lifeline of not being earnest at all in Victorian society.

In Great Expectations, Charles Dickens tells the story in the perspective of a young boy growing up in England during the Victorian Era. Philip “Pip” Pirrip is the protagonist, where we discover his life experiences and expectations through his narration. Pip’s sister, Mrs. Joe, and her husband, Mr. Joe, greatly influence his childhood. He meets many people later on who teaches him that not everyone will be happy and what it really means to have “great expectations”. Through Pip’s journey, Dickens suggests that happiness becomes achievable if one learns to accept and fix their flaws.
Faulkner writes the story as if it is through the community’s eyes. In just the first few sentences the town finds Emily’s body. She is dead and the entire town is at her house for her funeral that is, “set on what is our most select street. CHECK QUOTE”(#) Faulkner uses the word, our, to give the town their own sense of unity. Faulkner also tends to write the town as a single character which is why the point of view can also be described as in-we.
Introduction Organizational Behavior is the field of study which investigates the impact that individuals, group and structures have on behavior within the organization. We are born in an organization, we live, we work and most probably we will die in an organization. Yet most of us do not understand how people function, behave and interact between each other within these organizations. We also do not understand if people shape an organization or an organization shapes people. Different people work differently in different situations.
