Will he find his family? Will he even live? In A Long Walk to Water by Linda Sue Park a boy named Salva had to go through and try to overcome many hardships. It all started when Salva’s school got shot up and he had to run. Away from everything. On this journey of running from war he lost his group of people that are Dinka’s that he was with and stayed in a barn with a woman. He also couldn’t find any of his family at this hard time but when he found a new group of Dinka’s to stay with Salva had found his Uncle. He also made a really good friend. Until they both died and Salva was by himself again with nobody he knew. Salva had to live with lack of water and when he did have water it was dirty brown water. This was a problem because you can get really sick or even die from no water and most definitely from dirty, muddy water. For example in the story in chapter nine on page 53 it states, “Uncle cautioned him to make the water in his gourd last as long as possible.” This shows that Salva had to save his water and take only little sips of water so that it would last as long as it could because they barely had any.
