Throughout “All the Pretty Horses” by Cormac McCarthy, the main character John Grady Cole is submitted to many evils as he tries to find his own place in the world. In his own personal quest for a happy ending, John represents the idealized cowboy of the Old Wild West uncovering the truth of the violent and deadly landscape he encounters. John Grady attempts to mesh together his romanticised cowboy honor code into a land that concedes nothing to nobility and the only winner is the one who survives. Only through his many trials and beatings does John Grady begin to accept the world for what it is, a place that does not contain only pretty horses; however, he still manages to remain true to himself and what he believes in. From the beginning of “All the Pretty Horses,” John Grady Cole faces threats from the modern world towards the cowboy life he admires so much.
Throughout the first three stages, both Mirabella and her sister Jeanette are compared to each other because of the differences in their ways to adapt to human culture. They are compared when getting nametags, learning to walk, and learning to ride bicycles. To begin with, in stage one when Jeanette receives her nametag she is very cooperative and lets the nuns slap the nametag on her. To prove that this happens, the narrator says, “She slapped on a nametag…” (pg 239). This shows how well Jeanette is adapting to human culture.

Enchantress from the Stars was a story of many themes, but the most impotrant theme was bravery. Bravery is one of the main themes that is in this novel. Any character that wants to survive, needs bravery. Also, brvaery is needed for the characters not to be self centered, but to take a chance and help someone else.. There is many examples of this found in Enchantress from the Stars.

Mina embodies all the characteristics that makes up the perfect woman of this time. Due to this, Mina would not obtain a friendship that could threaten her status, which means Lucy is a suitable friend who shares common qualities.
