Slaves, one of the biggest economic resources for the US in the 17 and 1800s. Harriet Tubman was one of many slaves who escaped after her master died in 1849, but rather than fleeing the South, she stayed to help save hundreds of slaves. Harriet did many great things in her lifetime such as saving over 38 slaves on the underground railroad, saving 800 slaves as a union spy, as well as she served as a civil war nurse and caregiver . Harriet Tubman’s greatest achievement was her time as a caregiver. Harriet was the creator of many of the paths on the underground railroad, as well as she acted as an escorter of cargo (Slaves on the underground railroad). On her numerous trips, she saved more than 38 slaves in a span of 10 years” (Document B). She risked 10 years of her life and her freedom to save these people. After Congress Enacted the Bloodhound Act Harriet lead 8 rescue missions, traveling approximately 400 miles past police (Document A). On June 2nd, 1863 she saved more than 800 slaves, by singing: “I looked at them about two minutes, and then I sung to them….” (Document C).
