You know what would be the best story for story time children? Well, have you guys ever heard of Harriet Tubman? Harriet is certainly a brave woman and was wanted back in the South. That’s how I’m here today telling you the journey we took from my slave home to here, Canada. Tonight, you will hear the best story that your little ears would ever hear. It all started in the mid-1800s and there I was, sleeping in my quarters… It was 12:00 AM and I heard a sound that everyone was talking about. “Go down, Moses, ‘way down to Egypt Land” was the signal Moses would make to let the other slaves know that they could come with him and escape. She said, "Go on with us or die." The husky low-pitched voice was grim. I walked back in embarrassment and went back to sleep until the next day. When I woke up, I was restless. I didn’t get enough sleep because I was paranoid on how the Southerners might find us and what would’ve happened if I left back to the plantation. Also, when we were camping and resting for the next day, we had to sleep on the cold dirty ground. I wasn’t comfortable sleeping on the ground because I was so used to sleeping in a bed with a small blanket. Oh, I wish we were at our first stop where we can finally have rest, warmth, and food. We hid at our small little campsite until dark where it would be hard for the southerners to find us. While we were in place, Harriet told us about Canada and what it would be like when we all made it there. The way she described Canada to us was like deja vu because there were no owners to instruct you to do tasks in the heat and in the cold.
