She served an important part in U.S. History and Black history. Throughout her life she escaped slavery to freedom, she was an abolitionist opposing slavery, she contributed to the underground railroad, and Fredrick Douglas sent her a letter about his opinions about her. After she escaped, she became a slave abolitionist and opposed slavery. After escaping slavery, she became a working abolitionist, going against slavery and working in the underground railroad. The underground railroad was a secret organization that worked to capture slaves and bring them to freedom with secret trails and routes along the way. “She carried a gun for protection.” (Showsta). “She also carried a drug for crying babies.”(Showsta). She was a conductor for the underground railroad and freed many slaves. Tubman freed over 300 slaves in 19 trips to the south. This came along with the nickname “Moses of the people” for freeing all the slaves. This made many of the slave owners scared that they were going to lose their slaves. This basically means that the owners are losing an insane amount of money due to Harriet Tubman stealing them and helping them escape. Along with working as a conductor for the underground railroad, she was a Nurse and a spy during the Civil War. She served for the Union Army that contributed to the emancipation of slavery in the south. This led to a specific man recognizing her for her actions and
