The year was 1953 and it was a dull and heavy evening, it rained so much that cars drove slowly and carefully and no one came outside unless it was really important. On the corner of 5th and Vine Street, a small man in a soaked overcoat, wiped his glasses, trying to read the unclear note in his hands. Looking for the address on the note from building to building, the man finally found address that was on the note and stepped inside the building. Walking up the three floors of stairs, the man stopped in front of the office door for 303. On the glass window was written in large writing, “Wenders Publishing Company- Mr. Peter Wenders and Associates.” "This is my chance." thought the small man. When he entered inside the office, the man introduced himself to the employee as Harris Burdick and explained that he had an appointment. The employee led Mr. Burdick down a long hallway to the large door that read, “Peter Wenders.” Inside an old man with a white beard smiled and introduced himself as Peter Wenders, children’s book publisher. The man had an eager to finally show his work, Harris Burdick introduced a large brown portfolio, from within it, Harris Burdick introduced fifteen beautifully illustrated pictures. Each picture was a hand‐drawn charcoal image. As Mr. Wenders reviewed the pictures his smile grew larger and larger with every new image. Mr. Wenders firmly shook Mr. Burdick’s hand and had an urge to see the stories that go along with these phenomenal works of art. He was excited he had a publishing deal so Mr. Burdick promised to return tomorrow with the fifteen stories and would then be able do business with Mr. Wenders. Because of the amount of rain outside, Harris Burdick asked if Mr. Wenders could keep the images there and promised he would return to the office the next day, first thing in the morning. As morning of the next day approached, Mr. Burdick did not come. By the noon, the man didn't show up and the stories that go along with the charcoal drawings didn't
