The novel Harry Potter and the Half-Blood-Prince by J.K. Rowling follows the life of a young wizard as he attends the prestigious Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Harry is constantly under speculation of others as he is rumored to be the one that is prophesied to defeat the infamous Dark Lord Voldemort who has been terrorizing the wizarding world for decades. As Harry studies for classes with the looming threat of destruction hovering above him at all times, he attempts to uncover dark wizards within the school and learn about Lord Voldemort’s grim past. Many times, in even the first few chapters, people are publicly speculating the fact that Harry could be “The Chosen One.” Dumbledore even tries to use this in his own favor by using Harry to persuade an old friend to come out of retirement and return to Hogwarts, “You showed Horace exactly how much he stands to gain by returning to Hogwarts”(74). Yet, all he does is shrug it off and move on with his day. Then, later in the book, Romilda Vane attempts to drug Harry with a love potion when she had no previous interest in him”. This particular action almost lead to the death of his best friend, Ron. Does he even confront Romilda about the fact that she tried to drug him, which could have lead to the untimely passing of his first and best friend? No, he just goes to his classes. Another testament of his nearly saintly level of patience is that all throughout the novel he suspects Draco Malfoy of being in league with the man who killed his parents. Everytime he expresses this it immediately gets brushed off as as silly or unfounded “Potter, I appreciate you telling me this, but we cannot point the finger of blame at Mr. Malfoy purely because he visited the shop where this necklace was purchased”(255).
