In Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone Harry goes through the hero’s journey where he has his departure, Initiation-Return. When he does leave his ordinary life to become a student at Hogwarts he doesn’t even know what he is getting himself into, Harry is brought into a new world leaving the Ordinary world he was a part of. Harry is called into adventure when Hagrid shows up on his birthday,“"Ah, go boil yet heads, both of yeh," said Hagrid. "Harry -- yer a wizard." There was silence inside the hut. Only the sea and the whistling wind could be heard. "-- a what?" gasped Harry. "A wizard, o ' course," said Hagrid, sitting back down on the sofa, which groaned and sank even lower, "an ' a thumpin ' good 'un, I 'd say, once yeh 've been trained up a bit. When Harry has become a part of his new world Hogwarts then he is imitated into his new environment. He starts his Initiation when he goes through the Road of Trials such as the Three-Headed dog Fluffy, the troll in the bathroom where he helps save Hermione, and The Mirror of Erised. Harry must overcome these trials and when he finally get to the ordeal where he and his friends and alone with nobody to help them Harry steps into his hero title. This is when Harry must face Quirrell and Voldemort who is a part of Quirrell, “Now the hero stands in the deepest chamber of the Inmost Cave, face the greatest challenge and the most fearsome opponent yet. This the real heart of the matter..”( Vogler, 155.) When Harry does defeat Quirrell he is then rewarded at the end of the book by winning the House Cup. When Harry finishes his first year are Hogwarts he is a new person. He finds out he is an extraordinary person who now has friends, knows about his family, and knows that there is another world where he feels he belongs and that he isn’t
