Growing up, I loved it when my parents read action books to me. I went on an imaginary adventure and acted as if I was the hero in the story. Hero’s play a major role in an action packed story, without them there would be no savior for princesses or for the everyday people. For example, Beowulf, a mighty hero saved the mead hall from Grendel, a demon that would attack the mead hall, night after night, to feast on Hrothgar’s people. Harry Potter was a hero who saved himself, his school, and the wizard world from a once powerful evil wizard, Voldemort, or as most in the wizarding community referred to as ‘he who shall not be named. It took Harry eight years of training to fully defeat Voldemort. Both Beowulf and Harry Potter, fought battles for the benefit of the ones they cared for. Beowulf, a typical middle-class man wanted to become immortal so he tried to become popular by fighting grendel to show off to Hrothgar. News spread fast that Beowulf was fighting Grendel, which ignited his quest to fame. Throughout his lifetime, Beowulf successfully defeated Grendel, Grendel’s Mother, and the fire-breathing Dragon. In hopes of leaving a legacy behind, Beowulf proved himself as courageous, brave, and powerful. Beowulf also filled in the leadership role of the king. Beowulf self-elected himself and stepped up to the plate and took the job to slay all three of the monsters. This resulting in Hrothgar seeing Beowulf as a strong warrior. The last thing that he did was not use a magical for or weapon to kill the monsters, he had used his strength. When Beowulf was fighting Grendel, he ripped off his arm off without the use of a sword or axe.
