Plot Analysis
Exposition: The exposition of “Hatchet” introduces you to Brian, the main character of the book. He is on a plane to visit his father since his parents had just gotten a divorce. As he was on his way, the pilot had a sudden heart attack.
Rising action: During the rising action, Brian’s plane crashes and he soon realizes he is the only survivor. While finding nobody alive, he is faced with harsh challenges such as finding food, creating shelter, and more. As suspense continues to increase, Brian adapts to his new environment and figures out new survival skills.
Climax: The climax occurs once he creates a fire and comes to the realization that he has the chance to control what happens to his life.

Resolution: The resolution begins as Brian is finally rescued and taken back to his home. During this, he goes through an emotional transformation by realizing his strength and perseverance. He also realized that the wilderness gave him the chance to have a stronger understanding about himself.
How do the story events impact the ongoing development of the story: The story events in "Hatchet" have a strong impact on the ongoing development of the story. As Brian is faced with the challenges of surviving in the wilderness, every event puts him through a different experience which allows him to adapt, grow, and have more resilience. To add on, the events change him to become a better character as the story progresses.

As Brian is in the wilderness, he develops a connection with nature and learns how to rely on its resources. Which shows how the personal growth is made by the progress he has made in the wild.
Example #1: One example of how the relationship between Brian and nature allows the theme to be seen is the first time he made a fire. While he had many trials and errors, Brian finally figured out the necessary techniques to start a fire, which became a significant tool for survival.
Example #2: Another example is when Brian has a bear encounter in the wilderness. This external conflict between Brian and the bear adds tension to the story and shows Brian's ability to think quickly. It also helps you view the unpredictable and dangerous parts of the wilderness, further explaining the theme of survival and the need to adapt to surroundings.
