Gary Paulsen did a great job of creating this book in my opinion. I really like this book, because I felt like I could relate to it, being that the main character is around my age. Gray Paulsen wrote this book as a continuation of the “Hatchet,” sequel. The reason I chose to read this book, and the main reason I chose this book to write a review on, is because it was a very interesting way to write an adventurous story. The story began where Brian was asked by three government officials to go back and live in the wilderness again. This part of the story is where it got interesting. He is now 15, where when he survived the crash, he was only 14, he was stranded in the woods for more than a month, with nothing but a hatchet to survive with. He finally decided to go back in the woods, and while they were there, Brian taught Derek his techniques, how to get food, find a place to stay, and how to stay calm when the mosquitos came around, however Brian explained how it didn’t feel the same to him. Furthermore, a big storm occurred when they were in the woods, destroying their only form of communication to the outside world, and putting Derek into a coma, leaving Brian to take care of him. Brian’s only option was to find help for Derek and not having much time, he got to work. He then found a map in Derek’s suitcase, the nearest place was the trading post, and Brian knew that he had to get him there fast, so then he built a raft, encountering many obstacles, but never gave up, which proved how courageous the trip made him. He had no intention of leaving Derek, a person who he barely knew behind and never gave up
