From a young age citizen of the United States learn to hate, from microaggressions to full on riots like the one in Charlottesville, last year. The prejudices that Americans hold strongly contradict out values and defy the our country’s very constitution. I have looked into crimes provoked by race, religion, sexual orientation or ability. The amount of hate crimes in The United States is astounding, especially considering that we are a country that gives equal protection to all citizens no matter their race, sex, religion, or ability. The worst part about the hate crimes in the United States is that, in theory, really anyone can be affected. You don’t just have to be a minority. The causes of hate are quite elusive. CNN recently did a report on why people commit hate crimes. According the trusted periodical, there are four main types of perpetrators. There are thrill-seeking offenders. These are people who use their power for fun or to provoke the victim. There are the defensive who commit crimes for a supposed protection. They try to keep the “bad people out.” The “defensive” believe that their actions are justifiable. There are retaliatory, who commit crimes against a member of a group who they feel has done them wrong, and are pretty similar to the defensive. Finally, there are the mission offenders; they are the most rare and cause the most damage. They commit crimes not driven by passion alone, but are systematic. They are well thought out and take a plan of action to cause the most possible damage. Most importantly, they believe that they are socially disadvantaged. These are people like
