The Seeds of Hatred “Nothing in life is promised, except death,” (Kanye West). This was the fate of the star-crossed made from the hatred between the households of Montagues and Capulets. The play is Romeo and Juliet, written by Shakespeare, tells a story of two lovers killed by hatred. Their love is planted in the soil of their kinsmen. This soil is blackened with a plague that doesn’t hesitate to kill and death shall follow. Romeo and Juliet dig deeper into this soil, so no one can see their love, but tragic events make their love blackened. The fate of the star-crossed lovers caused to do everything in secrecy/running away that caused R&J love to shrivel in the seeds of hate. At a point in the text, Mercutio is cursing both the houses,”Help me into some house, Benvolio, or I shall faint. A plague O’ both your houses! They have made worms out of me. I have it and soundly too. Your houses!” (Shakespeare, 3.1.112-115). As Mercutio’s final demand, is blaming his death on the hatred of the houses. This is the first death in the whole play, which is from the plague (Romeo and Juliet's love) where he curses them for basically killing him. He asks Benvolio to find him a house because both of them are just as bad and dies as a side character. Some people may rebuke that love had created them and was not made from hatred. Even if their parents were in love doesn’t mean that their children wouldn’t follow their footsteps because at the end it is that love actually starts the driving force of hatred. Later, Montague is speaking after the death of the star crossed lovers,”Alas, my liege, my wife is dead tonight! Grief of my son’s exile hath stopped her breath,” (Shakespeare, 5.3.232-234). This is the final death of the whole play causing 5 deaths in total because of the plague.
