Discuss the difference between the Ancient Egyptian and Classical Greek approach to art. In other words, where is continuity and what has changed? (Ash Pennington) One aspect that differs between Egyptian and Greek art is the subjects depicted and how they are depicted. Egyptian art primarily focused on deities and gods, putting them at the center in a place of honor and reverence. Greek art, however, was mostly centered around mortal humans, placing them in this place of power to reflect how people were at the center of events on Earth. Both styles have similar sets of proportions - their body ratios, …show more content…
What is the difference between a.. Assessment of your answer to #3 (Zara Dimovski): Have you chosen one image from the Classical Period and one from the Hellenistic period? Name them: Are the two images fully identified? Write the identifications here: Are at least two stylistic elements from each image included and compared in the discussion? What are the benefits of a sassy? Are functions and context used to support the visual styles of the artwork? Our image from the Hellenistic Era is the sculptural frieze of Athena vs. the Giants. Our image from the classic period is Victory Adjusting Her Sandals. The two images are fully identified; Victory Adjusting Her Sandal is identified as from the Classical Period (480 BCE to 323 BCE) from the Temple of Athena, and the sculptural frieze of Athena vs. the Giants is from the Altar of Pergamon from The Hellenistic Period (323 B.C.E. to 30 B.C.E.). For the artwork Athena vs the Giants, we identify that the …show more content…
and what does it show? (Belle Francis) The image directly associated with the Panathenaic festival is the Plaque of the Ergastines. Although the frieze originated in Athens, pieces of it are all over the world in the Louvre, the British Museum, and the Acropolis Museum. The Plaque of the Ergastines was a part of the east frieze in the Pantheon and is believed to depict the people of Athens making their annual procession up to the Acropolis to honor their patron goddess, Athena. Prominent young women of Athens would weave peplos to clothe the sacred olive-wood statue, and this specific moment captures them being interrupted by two men while making their way to the Erechtheion (a temple specifically dedicated to the worship of Athena) on the north side of the Acropolis.
