Western Cultural – Hawaii Hawaii (Hawaii: Moku'āina o Hawai'i, English: State of Hawaii) in August 21, 1959 to became the 50th state of the United States. Hawaiian located in the North Pacific, where the continent is Oceania. Hawaii is 3,700 km far from the United States, belonging to the Pacific coast. The capital of the Hawaii is Honolulu. Between 1778 and 1898, Hawaii was also known as the Sandwich Islands. Hawaii is made of 8 main islands (Oahu, Maui, Hawaii Island, Molokai, Lanai, Kauai, Niihau and Kahoolawe) and 137 small islands, stretching 2450 km, forming a crescent-shaped island chain. The 8 main islands had their own unique specialties . From the spectacular sin-drenched surf enjoyed on Oahu to Maui rugged coastlines, Hawaii Island active volcano, peaceful Molokai and Lanai, and Kauai awe-inspiring lush beauty, this is a land of breath-taking extremes. Niihau Island is a private island owned by Robinson family no open for tourist. Kahoolawe Island in the pass got people living but now is an uninhabited island.
