A Romantic hero is a character that rejects established norms and conventions, has been rejected by society, and has themselves as the center of his or her own existence. Throughout the film The Last of the Mohicans, Hawkeye displayed many traits of being a romantic hero. The traits that Hawkeye showed included the concern for others, being resourceful, and bravery. The movie started out with Hawkeye and his family saving two girls who are the daughters of Colonel Munro. These girls were targeted by Mugua, a member of the Huron tribe, who blames all his misfortunes on Colonel Munro. Mugua captures the girls and brings them back to his tribe, only later having to make a deal to release one of the girls. One romantic trait Hawkeye demonstrated was the concern for others. At the beginning of the story when the Huron tribe first attacked, Hawkeye was brave enough to jump in and fight for Cora and Alice. This action was brave because his family and him were greatly outnumbered. When they got to the fort he assisted some colonial men escape so they could protect their families. Hawkeye knew full and well that it was legally wrong, what the punishment was and that didn’t stop him from helping those men. After Mugua and the Hurons attacked for the second time they captured Cora, Alice and Duncan and brought them back to their tribe. Hawkeye followed and went into the tribe camp even though he knew that there is a chance that they would kill him. He went there to negotiate for Cora and the others. Through bravery, Hawkeye was able to save many people. Hawkeye proved to be a romantic hero in the film through the skills and characteristics that he presented. This gave hope and courage to people both in the story and in real life. Not only that it showed that through hard and easy times that nothing should get in your way of achieving your
