Hawkeye My Life as a Weapon is a series that follows Clint Barton and Kate Bishop as they defeat criminals. They are superheroes that use their talent to work together. Kate is the mentee of Clint. She tends to keep Clint out of trouble. The book was written in 2012 by Matt Fraction. It follows Clint as the main character, while Kate is presented as his sidekick. In this version, Clint and Kate have contrasting qualities that help them achieve their goal of saving people. In Hawkeye Anchor Points Kate is the main character who has her own PI company and is an independent Hawkeye after training with Clint. In this version, Kate is more of a feminist. There is not any romance in the book. This is important because it exhibits her ability to stay on task and not let anyone distract her. The book follows a hero and the different paths to save her clients. The only amount of romance or lust is when Kate points out guys with abs: “More hot abs/ One plus one plus whatever equals bad guy shenanigans” (Thompson 4). Kate will point out guys who she sees as attractive often. She does not let this distract her though. She continues the mission without it affecting her. This helps the case that she is independent and a feminist. She does not let anyone or anything stop her from completing the mission. An example of the action being the theme of the book is after Kate saved her client: “You okay?/ Yeah. Kate you literally saved my life. I can’t ever thank you enough” (Thompson 82). This is an example of Kate working to help her client. She does not let anything get in the way of her to help a client. Kate’s main goal is to help her clients return to their life. One can see the happiness on Kate face throughout the panels on this page. The white background to the panel shows the pure reasons for why she does her job. She loves to save people. She takes on her client’s problems as if they were her own personal ones. This is important to the story because it represents Kate as a hero.
