ISSUE: Program Effectiveness of Head Start and Early Head Start
INTRODUCTION: Through two of my favorite quotes, “We worry about what a child will become tomorrow, yet we forget that he is someone today" By Stacia Tauscher and "Children are likely to live up to what you believe of them" by Lady Bird Johnson, it is clear to see that there is a fine line of wanting to help a child succeed, and enabling the natural process. Education of our future generations is an understandably important topic that requires agreement from lawmakers, community leaders, teachers and parents. However, through all of the educational planning, teaching and testing, it is a humbling point to remember that these children are in fact people and deserve respect for their culture and socio-economic status no matter what they may be. We must remember to honor and uphold our many differences, including approaches to education and speed of learning. THESIS: Even though opposing viewpoints argue that focusing on children's deficiencies contributes to children's feelings of alienation, which many school critics see as the root cause of school failure, programs such as Head Start and EHS have supporting research …show more content…

Head Start and Early Head Start (EHS) are programs designed to support the mental, social, and emotional development of children from birth to age 5. Early Head Start specifically serves pregnant women, infants, and toddlers. EHS programs are available to the family until the child turns 3 years old and is ready to transition into Head Start or another pre-K program. In addition to education services, the programs provide children and their families with support in health, nutrition, social, and other services. Head Start services claims to be responsive to each child and family's ethnic, cultural, and linguistic heritage.
