My interest in medicine developed after being diagnosed with Malaria few years ago. My heart was full of panic as I have heard frightening stories about Malaria, but the doctors dispelled my fears. The courageous display of the doctors during that period aided my interest in medicine. The medical profession has contributed significantly to the well-being of humanity all over the world. My desire is to make a difference in the life of others in my community. I have worked in wards like the Medical Observation unit, the Accident and Emergency unit, the Medical Acute unit and so on. Due to working on different wards, I have acquired essential skills such as flexibility and team working as I work alongside different staff of different expertise. I have the flair to adapt quickly to changes in work pattern and the ability to work under pressure as some wards are busier than another. Working in the children’s department has given me the skills in communicating effectively to children of different age groups. I have learnt that working with children requires a lot of patience and tolerance compared to adults. My role at the observation ward has been beneficial to me, it has boosted my morale and increased my social skills as I am able to form a good rapport with patients. I have helped in fundraising, by soliciting for funds from individuals on the streets and also informing the public of how their donations will help the less privileged. I have learnt to work under pressure to meet deadlines and targets to deliver timely projects. Also, I have acquired effective communication skills that could be helpful to me in studying medicine.
