INTRO: A virtual interview was conducted with a Native American woman who lives in Flagstaff near Phoenix, AZ. In addition to the interview, a literature search was conducted.
Native Americans, also known as American Indians or Indigenous Peoples, experience a range of health challenges that significantly impact their well-being. These challenges are the result of a complex interplay of social, economic, and environmental factors that have contributed to health disparities in this population. One may be to increase funding for Native American healthcare programs. This can include expanding access to comprehensive healthcare services, such as preventive care, mental health services, and substance abuse treatment. It can also include investing in healthcare infrastructure, such as building new clinics and hospitals, and increasing the number of healthcare professionals who are trained to provide culturally sensitive care. One significant challenge is the lack of access to quality healthcare. Additionally, many Native Americans do not have health insurance or have limited coverage, which can make it challenging to afford necessary medical care. Many Native American communities are located in rural areas, far from medical facilities, and face limited resources to support healthcare infrastructure.
