I think the objectives set forth in Healthy People are a step in the right direction. They set goals that may not always be reached 100% but they are realistic and attainable. In utilizing the instructional strategy, based on the social cognitive theory - lecture, quiz, games, and brain storming, the function shifts to an instructor, teacher, manager, and administrator. The function also shifts to a consultant or resource person to all the other members of the team – the Dietitian/Nutritionist, the Licensed Vocational Nurse, and the Fitness Instructor. The role also involves acting as a communicator, reporter, and advocate for health to the community. In conclusion, the roles are much more and encompasses a wider range, as the health education specialist wears many hats in the bid to reduce incidence of childhood obesity and adult onset of type II diabetes in Vista
‘Health promotion means to have a positive attitude in the setting to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle.’ One way children’s well-being can be supported by health promotion in the setting is by snack time. During snack time and lunch in my setting they have health foods which they encourage all children to eat. The setting provides balanced and healthy meals for the children. By giving children healthy meals and snacks it sets a good example and teaches children what they should be eating.
The purpose of health promotion is to notify individuals about current thinking on how to live healthily. It aims to inspire people to adopt health lifestyle choices. Health promotion should be hands-on in tackling health- related challenges and issues. An example of an issue that can be targeted by health promotion is the increase of obesity in this country and the issues that arise from this, such as the price of the NHS of treatment for conditions arising from obesity and the increase in obesity related deaths. What are the aims of health promotion?
The Healthy People 2020 initiative gives 10-year national objectives for improving the health of all Americans. These objectives are to be met by the year 2020 (healthy people reference). In this unit, I learned how communication and marketing health promotion needs to be target to the specific audience to have a substantial outcome. Thorough assessment about the community and audience is required before finding the proper communication tools and marketing for health promotion. For example, communication about disaster preparedness would be different between young adults versus an older population. Communication and marketing about disaster to younger adults would be effective through social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.). However, for older adults, other sources of communication for disaster preparedness would be needed because less older adults utilize social media.
While creating this Behavior Change Plan for Joseph, it was important to look into each aspect of his life. By documenting the different behavior challenges throughout the set period of time, we were able to connect with the true issues Joseph was having. After reading over them, it was clear that Joseph’s main struggle was to stay on task. When we graphed the data, it showed that his highest form of distraction was his escape. The operational definition of the targeted behavior was, “The student frequently leaves his seat to ask the teacher questions, get a drink of water and sharpen his pencils.
Changing America Businesses should be required to offer wellness incentives to employees. Americans need to focus on heather habits. Wellness incentives in businesses would be a step in the right direction to help us become a stronger nation. The extent to which psychologist have reached a consensus as to why people engage in activities detrimental to their health will be addressed using psychological debates in relation to health. Psychodynamism opined by freud(1856 1936) supported by Erickson(1950)explains how complex behavior manifest as primitive biological drives and irrational human behavior. Behaviourist approach postulates that human behavior is determined by response to stimulus. Behaviorism uses two approaches of learning which are Classical conditioning (pavlov 1901) and operant conditioning through posititive and negative reinforcement as opined by thorndike(1874) that habits are characterized by learning and repetition(Marcus,Munafor Albery(2008)
I strongly value my health and believe that health is our greatest form of wealth. When one lives a healthy lifestyle, it means more opportunities to explore the world, build families, achieving anything the heart desires and conquering personal goals.
