Introduction Today healthcare systems are comprised of individual systems that come together to improve patients’ healthcare. The twenty first century healthcare has changed from the healthcare our of ancestors. No longer is a one stop shop for physician and healthcare. Most systems are comprised of a main hospital, with different units within that hospital, and outpatient centers. An organizational analysis of a healthcare system reveals the different types of healthcare organizations, healthcare subsystems, different cultures in healthcare systems, styles of leadership that are leading these systems, variance levels of greatness, and the ability of the system to be ready for change. This organization is a teaching facility, therefore its norms consist of students (from varies degrees) preforming tasks under the supervision another medical professional. Being the leading medical research organization in the state has been the tradition for decades. Amount of blood needed for blood cultures is considered a sacred cow at ACTH. The common amount need was ten milliliters per bottle. After research, ACTH found that other facilities and data showed that five milliliters of blood per bottle was as effective. This allowed for less blood to be collected from patients. The ACTH prides themselves on promoting their team members to further their careers through finical support, innovate their staff to continue to develop new practices to provide the best of care to patients, and continue to engagement of the staff by having unit and system based congress. A study by Bhatti(2012) showed employees are gratified with their job in a democratic type environment. Porter-O’ Grady(2006) states that a facility moving towards share government begins by building an agenda based on responsibility, fairness, partnership, and ownership. The ACTH focuses on O’ Gradys statement with their own core values. Always caring, owning what you do, working together, and doing right all the time are ACTH values. The ACTH values the opinions and concerns of their employees. ACTH strives to make everyone included in the decision-making process. Congress is one way ACTH strives to make this happen. Congress is a part of every unit within the hospital side of ACTH. Every unit based congress meets once a week to discuss ways to improve their department. These unit based congress elect representatives for hospital congress. Then, the unit based congress decides if any concerns need to be brought to hospital congress. Hospital congress will vote on any new changes to the organization with the help of hospital leadership. Voting on different changes is another way ACTH participates in democratic style leadership.
