The second image that I would like to focus on in this paper is the emerald green color that was emanating as light in my dream. The first, and most obvious association, is that green is simply my favorite color. It is one that I most often turn to when I am creating art, as well as the color of my bedroom walls.
Green is a color that I enjoy seeing. It reminds me of fresh new growth on plants. I associate green with the spring time, when everything in the forests are full of fresh life, and bursting with new potential. Last semester, I took a class, Humanistic, Transpersonal, and Existential Psychology, with Professor Sowerby, here at Sonoma State, and learned about the chakra system. Specifically, that the heart chakra is located near the heart, in the center of the chest, and is commonly associated with love and compassion. The heart chakra’s color is traditionally green. I believe that the heart is special, because it is the organ that circulates oxygenated blood from our lungs to the rest of our body, and I believe that it is one of the processes that help to bridge the gap between the physical world and spiritual world. A significant memory that this brought up for me, was of when I was a small child, around three or four. My neighbor would throw his change under the big pine tree that was out in the front of our shared apartment complex. He once told me that it was a “special money tree,” and that if I would look carefully, there would be money on the ground that had fallen. Of course, when I searched under the tree, I found the change, which convinced me of the man’s story.
