In the quaint town of Woburn, Massachusetts, the death of Anne Anderson’s son due to leukemia quickly transformed from a personal tragedy to an extensive lawsuit. Chris McCandless was in his early 20’s, he was the kind of that guy that wanted to learn and experience life without all of the material things. He wanted to be independent from his parents and friends so Chris did something that would be insane for most of us humans but to him, it wasn’t. In today’s society, we have former National Football League(NFL) quarterback Collin Kapernick who’s no longer in the NFL because of his protest against racial inequality. However, many people believe he is no longer in the NFL because of his talent. Kapernick led the 49ers to Super Bowl 47. Although they didn’t win, he threw for 302 yards with a touchdown and rushed for 62 yards. Therefore, he didn’t get kicked out of the league because he wasn’t good enough, but for sitting down during the national anthem.
Anna, now 21 years old, was born with a mental and physical disability. She was diagnosed with Sturge-Webber Syndrome, which is a neurological disorder characterized by a port-wine stain birthmark on the forehead and upper eyelid on one side of the face. Anna has very limited use of her left arm and hand, along with a slight limp on her left leg, glaucoma in her left eye, and ADHD. Anna’s disability limits her in many things, but our family was lucky in that she is very high functioning despite all her challenges. At the tender age of 1 year and 7 months, Keller developed a disease that made her deaf and blind, therefore, losing her once normal life. Arthur H. Keller, her father, had been an editor provided the basics for her interests in literary work. Facing the hardships associated with such disabilities at a young age created an environment that pushed her into becoming activists and even a politician. Helen Keller was lucky to have a father who was financially capable of educating her irrespective of her disabilities. Education for a physically challenged child is expensive compared with education for a normal child.
